1. Components and durability
- Industrial: industrial-grade chips, aluminum heatsink, metal shell, high MTBF.
- Consumer: commodity chips, plastic case, dies under 24/7 load.
- Most of the premium sits in long-haul components.
2. Temperature range
- Industrial: -40°C ~ +75°C, for poles, pits, outdoors.
- Consumer: 0°C ~ 40°C, indoor with A/C only.
- Consumer outdoors → flaky in summer/winter.
3. Certification
- Industrial: CE/FCC/RoHS, sometimes ATEX for explosive sites.
- Consumer: usually basic testing only.
- Strict markets often need industrial certs to clear customs.
4. Firmware upkeep & 5. Supply commitment
- Industrial: multi-year firmware commitment, same model kept available.
- Consumer: models churn, firmware dropped early.
- For long projects, 'still purchasable' matters as much as specs.
Consumer is enough indoors, daytime. Outdoors, 24/7, or export — then industrial isn't expensive, it's mandatory.
